New Bands

Welcome to the latest addition to Portraits from the Hate Machine.  I hope people enjoy it and find some good music here.

There is a lot of talent out there, a lot of new bands looking for a chance to spread the word. I thought you guys might like to see some of them. What is more, some of them are right here in our own communities, so the least we can do is give them some support.

If you have band that has reached a stage where you have material you want people to hear then let us know about it. Tell us about yourselves and show us what you can do! Mail us at PftHM@live.com with the heading 'Band'. Include your press kit if you have one - band bio and tracks. If you play live then feel free to send us some of your live music too, audio and/or video. We will put up links for people to buy your albums or to download free tracks, but we will not charge people to download through this site.

All of the artists featured here are people that I have come across through either The Heirophant Council or ETS.  Some of them are friends, all of them are talented people who I respect.  Enjoy their art.

BIO

Commercial Friendly's origins lie in the unemployed, miserable town of Elkhart, Indiana where Matthew Place, the sole member, grew up surrounded by the hopelessness and lack of ambition which goes hand in hand with the city itself.

A classically trained pianist from the age of 8, Matthew began to make his own music - strongly influenced by a series of artists such as David Bowie, The Beatles, Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, and Radiohead. Working on a tiny budget he found himself experimenting with production techniques which give his work such clarity.

It is the hopelessness of his formative years which colors his powerfully Industrial debut album 'Subnormal'. From the more commercial 'Given' with its distorted synths and electronic drums to the softer, more melodic 'Blanket Cover Earth', this album creates a rich landscape of moods in a way which is both intelligent and driven.

'Subnormal' was released to critical acclaim, such as being a top Editor's Pick for Industrial Rock at CDBaby.com, and Matthew is already working on his second album, which leads his music in new directions and promises much.

About the band...by the band

Formed in 2008 We met at college where we were studying music. During this time we all learned about the process of recording, sound engineering, mixing, and producing. After the course had finished the bands guitarist opened up his own personal recording studio, where we recorded, produced and mixed our first demos. After that we took some time to start promoting our music, playing gigs and trying to get our name known in the music scene. We are currently writing songs for our first cd.

We would class ourselves as alternative metal. We have a very eclectic range of influences, and try not to restrict ourselves in any way when writing songs.

In the studio we have been adding a lot of samples and keys to our work, which we hope to implement in our live performances, though we wont be using a live keyboard player. Since all the keys and samples are added in the studio by guitarist dave runkee and drummer dave stones, the electronics, programming and samples will be triggered live by the drummer.

Bio:

After being exposed to the music of Aphex Twin, and my long-time Manson devotion, i realized i wanted to be an artist like the ones i grew up listening to, so i began my first musical experimentations.

The origin of all the songs are dreams I've had since my childhood to these days, at first the sound quality was my main barrier with the listener, now with better tools available, I'm closer to the sound i always wanted.

My favorite instrument is my voice, however I haven't come up with proper lyrics to be added to these compositions. My songs are vignettes to be used as the soundtrack to whatever the listener wishes to apply them to.

About Daniel Laufer:

I was born in 1989 in Freiburg, a town in the south of Germany. General interest in music has already grown in me at a young age and therefore, I took part in a two year "musical education" at the age of five, before beginning to play the accordion in the years to come. But after several competitions and countless hours of practising, I got the feeling that it was not exactly what wanted. Hence I made the decision to switch to the piano instead, first self-taught and later on with lessons. Then at the age of thirteen, I began to write own musical pieces at the computer - at first very simple but as time passed by, their quality as well as my abilities increased and I started to compose for films, radio plays and games, having always been fascinated by this kind of music. Fortunately, the results of my work became more promising, the projects more exciting and one was followed by the other which leads me to where and who I am at this point - a young aspiring composer looking forward to working in this business full-time one day, once school and education are finished.

So if you're interested in having me produce music for your project, I would be happy to hear from you - just send me a message for this matter. To get more information on my work feel free to visit my web site.
